Holy Ghost

Music Ministry at Holy Ghost Church

Our community is blest to have many fine and aspiring musicians of all ages. We are always looking for new friends wishing to share their time and musical talent in worship to God and service to our parish. Whether you are a singer or woodwind player, an aspiring handbell ringer or brass and percussion player, there is a place for you at Holy Ghost.

If you would like more information or would like to join any of our musical groups, please contact: Elizabeth Swarthout, Director of Music at (585) 247-3535 ext. 204.

Youth Choir:

Boys and girls in grades 2 and up are welcome (children need to read). The group practices from 6:00pm-7:00pm on Wednesdays throughout the school year. The choir sings approximately once a month October through May and participates in area festivals and concerts.

Handbell Choirs:

We have two handbell choirs. The first is a small group of adults that plays simple but enjoyable music. The second group is larger and for youth and adults. This second group tends to play more complex music. The handbell groups play at mass throughout the year. On occasion they have played concerts as an outreach ministry in area nursing homes.

Mixed Choir:

The Mixed Choir isn't just for adults. Teens and adults are invited to join together to sing in the mixed (harmony) choir. The group sings in a variety of styles including gospel, folk, contemporary and traditional hymnody. The mixed choir sings on Sunday mornings throughout the school year and participates in charitable concerts around the area.

Contemporary Ensemble:

Our Contemporary Ensemble welcome singers and instrumentalists who want to make music in a small group setting. The group leads our sung worship at the Saturday evening mass.

There are also opportunties for teens in an all teen contemporary ensemble that leads singing about once a month.

Resurrection Choir:

The Funeral or Resurrection Choir serves as needed to support the congregational singing at funeral liturgies. These dedicated singers need no special training to sing the hymns and acclamations in support of the mourning family and friends of the deceased. Participating in funeral ministry is a true act of mercy that is deeply appreciated.
