Holy Ghost

Homebound Ministry

No family or church community passes through life without experiencing some illness or injury. Many times physical injury, old age, or debilitating disease prevent our parishioners from participating regularly in the celebration of the Eucharist. During such times, contact with the community of faith is needed more than ever before.

By volunteering as a minister to the Homebound, you can help our community to follow Christ's insistent teaching of care and kindness to those who are ill or alone. Your willingness to visit and share the Eucharist with a homebound parishioner will bringing a ray hope and warmth into what might otherwise be a lonely and somber experience.

Outreach to the Elderly and Homebound

The Outreach to the Elderly and Homebound seeks to provide support to members of Holy Ghost Church who need help in one or several areas of their lives. Depending on their specific needs, this ministry strives to offer assistance to these parishioners by organizing teams of volunteers who are willing to help.

Currently, the Outreach to the Elderly and Homebound is in need of volunteers who would be willing to do one or more of the following:

  • Prepare and deliver meals for those who are homebound.
  • Provide transportation to and from Mass for those who cannot drive.
  • Offer contact and support by phone to those who live alone.

Each week, a volunteer from the outreach ministry prepares and delivers meals to three for four of our parishioners. Because this is a team effort, each volunteer is usually only called upon to do this about every eight weeks.

Due to the fact that many of our homebound parishioners are without transportation, they are unable to attend Mass. Volunteers are needed to providing a ride to and from church so that these parishioner may rejoin our Sunday worship and be reunited with our community of faith.

For those who live alone, there is often a special need for contact and support from our parish community. Volunteers are also needed who would be willing to call these parishioners on a regular basis to provide that important connection with our church.

If you would be interested in helping with this important ministry, please contact Michelle Peter, Pastoral Associate, at 247-3535, ext. 205. for more information.
